Remixing Rhetoric: Pop Culture in the Composition Classroom

 

To start, I love pop culture. I enjoy hate-watching reality television and analyzing the different character tropes evident in real people. This inspired my research topic: pop culture. While investigating this subject, I learned about Remix Theory. The idea that fanfiction and parody could be just as valid of a medium as, say, a short story, fascinated me. I learned that these forms could help students develop an attachment and investment in the original text. I was hooked. Below are my PowerPoint presentation and Teaching Application.
